Patrice Gheisar joins CANMNT coaching staff ahead of Concacaf Nations League quarter-finals

Halifax, NS – (November 6, 2024) – Halifax Wanderers head coach Patrice Gheisar is joining Jesse Marsch and the Canadian Men’s National Team coaching staff in the team’s training hub in Toronto this week, ahead of the squad’s Concacaf Nations League quarter-finals bout against Suriname later this month.

Canada is playing Suriname in a two-legged tie, with the first leg to be played on Friday, Nov. 15, in Suriname and the return fixture to be played on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at BMO Field in Toronto. The winning team, on aggregate, will advance to the Nations League semi-finals in March. The training hub consists of a group of 19 North American-based players who are out of season. They will take part in a week of pre-camp training alongside Marsch, Gheisar and the Canadian Men’s National Team coaching staff.

“Having Pat join the CMNT is a testament to not only his knowledge, relationships and tremendous work ethic but also the pathway that the CPL is creating for emerging coaches and players in this country,” Derek Martin, Founder and President, Halifax Wanderers FC. “It is terrific to see Jesse and Canada Soccer leaning in to supporting the talented professional coaches developing here in the Canadian Premier League clubs”

Gheisar recently finished his second season as head coach of the Wanderers, after he was named the club’s second-ever head coach on November 30, 2022. He is a two-time CPL Manager of the Month and was a nominee for the league’s Coach of the Year award in 2023. After the 2023 season, Gheisar signed a contract extension through the 2025 season.

Before joining the Wanderers, Gheisar’s previous coaching roles in the Toronto area saw him assist in the development of several future men’s national team players such as Alistair Johnston, Kamal Miller, Jonathan Osorio and Dayne St. Clair, who have previously been coached by Gheisar.
