Alex Marshall called-up by Jamaica for World Cup Qualifiers

Halifax Wanderers forward Alex Marshall has been called up by the Jamaican Men’s National Team for its upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches against El Salvador, Canada and Honduras.

“We’re delighted for Alex to get the call for these games with his country,” Sporting Director Matt Fegan said. “The call from your country is a significant one. Having the opportunity to compete on this level is a testament to Alex’s work to prepare himself for our 2022 Canadian Premier League season.”

Marshall, 24, has made ten appearances with the Jamaican team since his debut on August 25, 2017, against Trinidad and Tobago.

The upcoming trip includes a March 27 matchup against Canada at BMO Field in Toronto. The Wanderers are currently holding training camp in nearby Mississauga.

“We planned a day-off after the Forge pre-season game this weekend, so we’re sending the squad to the game on Sunday between Canada and Jamaica. Of course, most will want to see Canada win this one, but the boys will want to see Alex on the pitch and doing well,” Fegan said.

Jamaica is also hosting two matches — against El Salvador (March 24) and Honduras (March 30).

Marshall made 22 appearances for the Wanderers during the 2021 Canadian Premier League season, scoring two goals and tallying one assist.

Following the qualifying matches, Marshall will join the squad in Halifax ahead of the club’s season opener on April 7 at York United FC.
