‘It’s great family time and great soccer’: Gervais family pumped about Wanderers 2020 campaign

They’ve all grown up playing soccer but it wasn’t until the Wanderers kicked off in the CPL that the Gervais family actually got together to watch a pro team in action together.

Andrew, Cheryl and their five kids — Logan, Maya, Hayley, Marley and Ellie — were hooked straight away.

“It’s a tonne of fun. Soccer is something we all have in common so it’s a great way to spend some family time together and the atmosphere at the games has been incredible,” said Andrew Gervais.

With four of their five children being multi-sport athletes there’s a lot of running around to different events every night, so being at a game together is something of a blessing.

“It’s given us a chance for us to go as a family and we enjoy being outside too so it’s great family time and great soccer to watch,” said Cheryl Gervais.

She adds another bonus for the family was the fact there was no clash with the kids own team’s matches, thanks to Soccer Nova Scotia not scheduling any games on Saturdays when the Wanderers were at home.

They’re now all true-blue fans of their hometown Halifax team having also met the players they’ve been cheering on from the stands.

“Our girls have walked out with the Wanderers at games and they’ve been involved in scrimmages at half time,” said Andrew Gervais. “The players have come out to community events and at one match Perea and Guti actually asked our son to sit with them and he stayed there watching the second half.”

When the Gervais parents and kids are not wearing their own team’s jersey’s you’ll see them around Halifax in the home and away colours of the Wanderers.

And when at home in their backyard, they kick a ball around and dream they’re playing at the Wanderers Grounds.

“They pretend to be the players and they have nicknames for them all so it’s wonderful,” said Cheryl Gervais.

Families can take advantage of special youth pricing available in our Harbour Blue and Naval Grey sections of the Grounds for the 2020 season.

Tickets would work out to just over $14 per match for kids between 2 and 12 with a season seat in Naval Grey, versus just over $21 per game for an adult season ticket in the same section.

And if there was any doubt about the Gervais family being back at the Grounds…..

“Well my husband already got the tickets behind my back, so we will!” laughed Cheryl.
