Halifax Wanderers forward João Morelli has been added to the club’s active roster and is available for selection when the Wanderers host Pacific FC on July 11.
Morelli has also signed a new contract that includes a club option for the 2024 Canadian Premier League Season.
“We’re delighted to welcome Joao back into the group after a significant layoff,” sporting director Matt Fegan said. “His recovery has been a mixture of patience and perseverance working his way back toward full fitness, and he deserves full credit through a tough journey. His return has given everyone around the club a lift to see him back on the pitch in Halifax.”
An exciting attacking player, Morelli signed with Halifax ahead of the 2020 season and immediately established himself as a top player in the CPL. Morelli was the Canadian Premier League’s MVP and Golden Boot winner in 2021, scoring 14 goals in just 21 matches.
Morelli returned to Halifax in July following recovery from knee surgery in the summer of 2022. The 27-year-old forward from Brazil recently featured in a Wanderers U23 match against Holstein Kiel, assisting on the Wanderers’ goal.
Halifax welcomes Pacific FC on Tuesday, July 11, at the Wanderers Grounds. Tickets are still available here.
