The Halifax Wanderers Football Club can today confirm that forward João Morelli suffered a season-ending ACL injury in this past Saturday’s match against Atletico Ottawa. 

“First and foremost, we are committed to João receiving the absolute best medical care possible to ensure his successful recovery from this unfortunate injury,” Wanderers Founder & President Derek Martin said. “João remains a big part of the Wanderers family, and we will support him every step of the way. I can’t wait to see him scoring goals at the Wanderers Grounds in 2023!”

The Wanderers will be exercising a league provision that allows for roster relief in the event of a season-ending injury and will look to add an international or domestic player as soon as possible.

“João is an immense talent, and we will miss his skill and passion on the pitch, but we have built a team full of men we believe in as a club,” sporting director Matt Fegan said. “These players now have the opportunity to rise to the moment and carry the team forward to a CPL title challenge this season.”
