Wanderers acquire Jordan Perruzza on loan from Toronto FC

The Halifax Wanderers have acquired Canadian forward Jordan Perruzza on loan from Toronto FC (MLS) for the remainder of the 2023 CPL season.

Perruzza, 22, has spent the last six years in the Toronto FC system, scoring a combined 21 goals with the first team and Toronto FC II. In 2023 he has been a member of Toronto’s MLS squad, making six appearances across all competitions.

“He’s an out-and-out prolific number nine type of attacker that plays the brand of football we want, so I’m excited to have him in our group,” Wanderers head coach Patrice Gheisar said. “His maturity is quite high, he connects his passes really well and is a terrific finisher. It’s integral for us to have depth and be prepared for tough games, and having him a part of our organization gives us that.”

From Toronto, Perruzza’s professional career includes two stints at San Antonio FC in the USL Championship. In 2020, he scored three times in five appearances. He has also made four appearances for Canada’s U-20 national team, scoring once.

The forward is a no stranger to Wanderers Grounds, Perruzza started and scored for Toronto in a 2-1 victory over the Wanderers in the 2022 Canadian Championship.

“I’m excited to be in Halifax and join a special group with big ambitions,” Perruzza said. “The atmosphere in the stadium was incredible when I played there last year. And I’m excited to work with Patrice Gheisar because of his exciting brand of football and focus on creating lots of high-quality chances in front of goal.”

Perruzza began his career at local clubs Vaughan SC and Woodbridge Strikers before joining the Toronto FC Academy in 2012. In 2014, Perruzza joined the setup at Italian Serie A side Empoli and made several appearances for their youth sides before returning to Toronto FC in 2018.

In a separate roster move, Ludwig Amla has been moved to the ineligible list and is no longer a member of the Wanderers’ active roster.
