Ahead of the 2022 Halifax Wanderers home opener, the club has continued its year-after-year improvements to the ‘temporary’ stadium at the Wanderers Grounds. Fans will get their first look inside when the team hosts FC Edmonton on Saturday, April 30.
“Despite the limitations of our ‘pop-up’ stadium, we remain committed to giving our fans the best game day experience in Canada,” Wanderers President and Founder Derek Martin said. “We have filled every available space to bring fans as close to the action as possible and let their passion feed an authentic football match atmosphere.”
This year, the club is excited to welcome back fans with several new additions to the stadium and improvements to the existing infrastructure.
A new partnership with Brigadoon Village introduces Brigadoon Corner on the stadium’s northwest side. The 200-person section will welcome camp families and make football accessible to a wide range of new fans.
New elevated viewing decks were built in The Patio, located directly in front of The Kitchen (east grandstand) in partnership with Blue Lobster and the United Way. Additionally, a Heineken Deck has been built in the southwest corner. These platforms allow the club to maximize space that is restricted from grandstand placement while adding over 200 more fans to our already intimidating east end.
The Wanderers are also excited to announce that new Premium Corner tables have been added in the southwest corner, adding 120 seats. These seats are already sold out for the entire 2022 season thanks to the support of the club’s corporate partners.
There are also improvements to the washroom facilities at Wanderers matches this season as fans will have access to the permanent washroom building on the stadium’s north side, which will be augmented with some portable toilets.
Fan favourites such as Humble Pie and Millers Kettle Corn return for 2022 with a few new additions for food this year. Season members and single-game purchasers will be receiving more detailed information regarding the pre-ordering options in the coming days, but the club will continue to do its best to provide food options.
For ease of entry, the Wanderers will maintain the extra entry gates added to the stadium during the 2021 season as part of our COVID-19 protocols. The club continues to look for additional efficiencies that allow fans to get inside the Wanderers Grounds and to their seats as quickly as possible.
The Halifax Wanderers Football Club continues to follow the latest public health guidelines from the Province of Nova Scotia. Under the current guidelines, proof of vaccination is not required to enter The Grounds and the wearing of masks is not mandatory.
“We are excited to see new and old faces return this weekend as we kick off our 3rd season playing in front of capacity crowds in Halifax,” Martin said. “We remain committed to doing the best we can with what we have but look forward to finding a long-term solution for The Wanderers Grounds.”
