Halifax Wanderers Football Club Announce Initial 2021 Roster Moves

After an inaugural offseason that saw the club turn over 75% of its roster, the Wanderers have flipped the script following their improved 2020 Island Games run and are extremely pleased to announce a significant number of returnees for the 2021 season.

“These core players have embraced their role as representatives of our city, our fans and our club, earning themselves the opportunity to continue to build on the momentum they created at the Island Games,” stated Derek Martin, Club President & Founder. “Our goal of bringing a championship to our supporters remains at the forefront of every decision we make and we are confident these returning players put us in a great position to compete.”

The club can confirm the return of the following players for the 2021 season, many under extended, long term contracts:

Christian Oxner

Peter Schaale (INT)

Andre Rampersad (INT)

Mateo Restrepo

Omar Kreim

Alessandro Riggi

Jems Geffrard

Eriks Santos (INT)

Joao Morelli (INT)

Cory Bent (INT)

Alex Marshall (INT)

Akeem Garcia (INT)

With a continued focus on youth, the club will also welcome back the following players into their pre-season camp with a view to earning new 2021 contracts:

Scott Firth (U21)

Jake Ruby (U21)

The club is also engaged in ongoing discussions with the following players:

Alex De Carolis

Daniel Kinumbe

Aboubacar Sissoko

Ibrahima Sanoh

“In addition to these returning players, we’ve also signed a number of exciting new players and  we will be announcing those signings over the next few months.” said Matt Fegan, VP of Football Operations.  “The word is out about our city, our grounds, our fans and our club culture; making the Wanderers an attractive destination for talented players giving us the luxury of choosing from an impressive list of players.”

Unfortunately the club is also saying goodbye to a few players including Chrisnovic N’sa, one of our original Wanderers, who has declined the club’s new contract offer.  The club has also opted not to extend Louis Béland-Goyette after his one-year deal expired and Jason Beaulieu has decided to retire from professional football to pursue a career in engineering.  Additionally, Luke Green will be pursuing his education at St. Francis Xavier University and will play for the X-MEN in the 2021 Fall season.

“It is always difficult to say goodbye to players who have given their all for the club,” said GM & Head Coach Stephen Hart. “We thank them for their contribution to our club. Despite making our best efforts to maintain continuity, in football there will always be some offseason movement and we wish all of these young men continued success wherever their careers and lives take them.”
