Wanderers launch face mask campaign to support United Way

The Wanderers are teaming up with the United Way to produce Wanderers branded face coverings throughout the Atlantic Provinces, with all proceeds going to the United Way’s Atlantic Compassion Fund.

The fund supports charitable organizations to serve those most marginalized by poverty and isolation across the Atlantic region, by providing for immediate needs such as food, mental health support, safe spaces and connection. Since the fund launched on March 17, over $1 million has been invested in more than 260 organizations.

“While we wait to get back on the pitch it is important for our club to continue supporting our community,” said Derek Martin, the Founder and President of HFX Wanderers FC. “The United Way is doing terrific work helping the most vulnerable in our communities through the Atlantic Compassion Fund and we are honoured to help raise some funds and awareness for this worthwhile initiative.”

The masks, which can be pre-ordered from the Wanderers online store, are tentatively scheduled to ship in early June. Cost for 2 face masks will be $19.99 plus tax and shipping with all net proceeds donated to the Atlantic Compassion Fund.  The masks will also be available to pick up at a location to be determined with no shipping charges.

“The Wanderers club and their fans clearly have so much compassion and love for this community,” said Sara Napier, President and CEO of United Way Halifax. “We are delighted they’ve come up with a creative way to not only protect people, but engage soccer fans and residents to generously support United Way’s work to address the needs of our most vulnerable community members. This is an important collaboration that will have great impact, and we are grateful for the Wanderers leadership.”

The Public Health Agency of Canada has suggested masks could help reduce the spread of the virus by providing additional protection for people in public settings like grocery stores.

Fans and supporters can show their team pride by wearing Wanderers non-medical grade protection masks and by being part of the We Are One community.

The masks feature the Wanderers and Canadian Premier League logos with waves in the design.
