The Halifax Wanderers have hired Nicholas Edwards as the club’s first Head of Performance. Edwards brings an extensive background in sports science and strength and conditioning to his new role in Halifax. He joins the Wanderers after serving as the Lead Academy Physical Development Coach for Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League.
“We are thrilled to recruit a professional of Nick’s calibre to join us in Halifax,” sporting director Matt Fegan said. “He has a unique combination of experience in the Canadian system as well as at the highest level in England with first team as well as academy players. We know Nick will be an asset to our football club and the growth of soccer in Atlantic Canada.”
As Head of Performance, Edwards will work closely with the Wanderers coaches, managing all aspects of player fitness, conditioning, nutrition and mental performance. Along with his important role in the first team, Edwards will oversee the physical conditioning programs for the Wanderers Development Team.
“I’m really passionate about Canadian soccer and want to be a part of its growth and development, so I’m excited to get started in Halifax,” Edwards said. “That’s why I left Canada to work in England so I could get experience and bring that back and help the next generation. I’m excited for the future here with the Wanderers and working with the coaches.”
From Calgary, Alberta, Edwards received his Master’s Degree in Strength and Conditioning from Middlesex University in London, England. His previous roles include stints at Cavalry FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Crewe Alexandra and Nottingham Forest.
