The Halifax Wanderers have signed captain Andre Rampersad, defender Zachary Fernandez, and forward Wesley Timoteo to new multi-year contracts.
Rampersad and Timoteo are now signed through the end of the 2024 CPL season with a club option for 2025. Fernandez has agreed to new terms on his contract that includes a guarantee for 2024.
“We’re delighted to finalize improved terms for Andre, Zach and Wesley, who each had solid seasons in 2022,” Wanderers sporting director Matt Fegan said. “All three players meet the vision of the new coaching staff’s playing identity and will form part of the core for the squad as we move forward.”
Rampersad, 27, was named team captain in 2020 and is the Wanderers’ all-time leader in matches played (97). The veteran midfielder from Trinidad and Tobago made 27 appearances in 2022, playing the full 90 minutes in 23 of those matches.
“I’m very excited to be extending my time in Halifax,” Rampersad said. “I’m looking forward to working with my teammates and coaches to bring the heat to the Wanderers Grounds for the best fans in the league, they deserve everything!”
Fernandez, 21, is coming off a fantastic first season in the CPL, where he became a mainstay at right-back for Halifax. Fernandez registered five assists in 26 matches in 2022.
“I’m really excited for 2023, I think it’s a statement year for the club and the city,” Fernandez said. “I think my first season went well, but I am far from where I want to reach, so now I keep working to be better every day.”
Timoteo, 22, spent the 2022 season on loan to FC Edmonton. Across all competitions, Timoteo made 28 appearances for Edmonton, scoring three goals and tallying six assists.
“I can’t wait to play at the Wanderers Grounds, I had the chance to play there on the away side and still felt the love from the fans, so I’m excited to play in front of them,” Timoteo said. “I’m looking forward to getting with the team to begin our preparation together.”
